HIV/AIDS & Tuberculosis

At the Mercytree Foundation, our mission is to create healthier, more resilient communities across rural Sub-Saharan Africa. In support of that mission, our HIV/AIDS & Tuberculosis Initiative is centered on education, screening, treatment access, and youth empowerment—because early detection and awareness save lives.

  1. Get Tested, Stay Safe

Overview: A frontline effort offering free HIV testing and confidential counseling, this program empowers individuals with knowledge of their status and a supportive path forward.

What We Do:

  • Provide no-cost, rapid HIV testing at clinics and community outreach events.
  • Offer personalized counseling to help individuals understand their results, explore prevention strategies, and access follow-up care or treatment if needed.
  • Distribute educational materials emphasizing safe practices and destigmatization of testing.

Impact Goals:

  • Increase voluntary testing rates.
  • Encourage early detection, treatment, and ongoing support for those living with HIV.

  1. Stop TB Now

Overview: Focusing on early identification and treatment, this program is dedicated to TB screening and public awareness, enabling timely intervention for better outcomes.

What We Do:

  • Conduct community-based TB screenings—often combined with HIV outreach efforts—especially in high-risk or underserved areas.
  • Facilitate referrals for confirmatory diagnosis and linkage to treatment centers.
  • Carry out awareness campaigns to educate communities about TB symptoms, transmission, and the importance of early care.

Impact Goals:

  • Boost early TB detection rates.
  • Reduce disease transmission and incidence through prompt treatment and informed awareness.

  1. Youth Against HIV/AIDS

Overview: Engaging directly with young people, this program brings HIV/AIDS awareness into schools and communities to foster peer-led change and informed choices.

What We Do:

  • Deliver school-based and community workshops using interactive methods such as drama, peer discussions, and multimedia presentations.
  • Train youth ambassadors to promote HIV prevention, healthy behaviors, and empathy among their peers.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and local leaders to reinforce accurate information, safe practices, and support networks.

Impact Goals:

  • Empower young people as agents of change in preventing HIV transmission.
  • Reduce stigma through community dialogues and open conversations among youth.

Programmatic Synergy

Together, these three components create a comprehensive approach:

  • Early Detection & Support: “Get Tested, Stay Safe” promotes accessible testing and care.
  • Disease Control & Awareness: “Stop TB Now” helps curb TB through screening and highlights its connection with HIV.
  • Youth Engagement & Prevention: “Youth Against HIV/AIDS” drives sustainable change by educating and empowering young generations.
