FAQ Donating

FAQ Donating

When will I receive a receipt for my donation?

If your gift was a one-time donation, you’ll receive an official printed acknowledgment/tax receipt in the mail roughly 3-4 weeks from the date of your gift.

If you donated online, you’ll receive both an email confirmation and an official printed acknowledgment/tax receipt.

If you’re a member of our Field Partner program, giving monthly via direct withdrawals from your credit card or bank account, you’ll automatically receive a tax receipt for your total annual contributions at the end of each fiscal year (typically during the last week of January/first week of February).

If you made a contribution of stock, your gift came to us without your contact information. To make sure we can thank you and document your donation, please send an email with your name, address, and the details of your stock gift to donate@mercytreeintf.org.

When will the recipient of my tribute gift receive notification?

It can take up to four weeks for your recipient to receive notification by mail. If it has been longer than four weeks, please send an email to donate@mercytreeintf.org.

What is your Employer Identification Number (EIN)?

Our Federal Identification Number, also known as the Employer Identification Number (EIN), is 80-0192876.

If your monthly gift is charged to a credit or debit card, call us at 926-864-3770 and we can quickly update your information. We’re available 9 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week.

Financial Accountability

Is Mercytree International Foundation a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization? Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Mercytree International Foundation USA, Inc. is recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. 100 percent of your donation is tax-deductible.

Our Federal Tax ID number or Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 80-0192876. If you’d like to learn more, visit our Financial Information page.

Where does Mercytree International Foundation fund come from?

All of our funds will be raised through private contributors, such as individuals, foundations, and corporations. Private support is essential to our ability to maintain our independence and neutrality. This support will make it possible for us to complete our projects and provide life-saving medical care, even in the most remote part of Africa.

In the interests of maintaining our independence and neutrality, Mercytree International Foundation will limit government funding to less than 30 percent of total funds raised. We strive to keep this figure as low as possible.

There is also a corporate gift acceptance policy to protect our independence, neutrality, and impartiality. Because of potential conflicts with our medical humanitarian work, we do not accept contributions from corporations or industries whose core activities may be in direct conflict with—or jeopardize—the goals of our medical humanitarian work, or in any way limit Mercytree International Foundation’s ability to provide health assistance and other services.

Read more about our Corporate Gift Acceptance Policy or view our Annual Report.

What percentage of my donation goes to program activities?

Mercytree International Foundation strives to operate efficiently and to minimize fundraising and administrative costs. We’re proud of the way we spend donor funds: Mercytree International Foundation allocates more than 90 percent of raised funds to program activities. Maintaining this standard is a high priority.

Mercytree International Foundation also meets the standards of watchdog agencies.

The Multiyear Initiative encourages supporters to make significant long-term commitments to Mercytree International Foundation. To join this initiative, donors are asked to pledge a minimum of $5,000 per year for a three-to-five-year period.

If you’d still like to restrict your donation, let us know by sending an email to donate@mercytreeinyf.org after your transaction is complete. In your email, please tell us to which program you would like the funds directed. Please include your name, full address, the amount of your donation, and your donation confirmation number.
